Whether it’s around the house or out in the garage, we’re always looking for useful ways to save space while organizing small things. Going vertical is the most efficient use of horizontal surfaces. This notion makes the everyday kitchen spice rack the perfect landing pad for anything that will fit into a small jar or on a tiny shelf.

10 Uses for Spice Racks

  1. Catchall Shelf: Hang a spice rack in the entryway to organize sunglasses, keys, mail, stamps and other daily clutter. For a decorative touch, add a tiny dish garden.
  1. Craft Storage: Crafters, this is the perfect place to arrange all of those small bottles of acrylic paint, as well as buttons, beads, glitter and other embellishments.
  1. Thread Dispenser: If sewing is your thing, keeping thread at an arms length on a spice rack will save a lot of time while keeping you organized.
  1. Bookshelf: If your spice rack is one long shelf, hang several in a child’s room and use as bookshelves.
  1. Nail Polish Holder: Take a cue from our favourite spa and display your collection of nail polish on a multi-shelved spice rack.

  1. Vanity Organizer: Use one of those long spice racks to store lotion, makeup and perfume next to your vanity.
  1. Photo Gallery: Small frames can be displayed neatly and changed out at a moments notice when placed on a spice shelf.
  1. Plate Display: If you have a collection of plates, use museum wax to securely stack them in a spice rack as a display shelf.
  1. Lighting: A spice rack can create pretty atmospheric lighting when used as a shelf for a row of small LED tea lights.
  1. Natural Décor: Save those tall and narrow jars leftover from old spices. They can be repurposed as darling bud vases. Arrange them across a spice rack for a beautiful touch of nature on your wall.
